I misstated that there was a meeting Wednesday night at Round Table Pizza on 132nd in Kent. The meeting was held on Tuesday night. If I miss informed you please contact the Booster Club and they will fill you in on any questions you might have about up coming events.
After speaking with Cindy Sapp - these are some of the answers to some questions
1. Due to construction there will be an alternate route once we get to 256 on the Fun Run on Friday.
2. The Freshman program will
not be practicing on the Saturday of Labor Day Weekend unless they have been asked to move up to JV or Varsity. The varsity will be practicing because they have a game on Thursday that week. So, the rest of the team will be at KW on Saturday morning for a light workout and a run through of Puyallup tendencies
3. There will be presale forms handed out to the boys the morning of the Lock-in pick up and the week prior to the fundraiser. So parents be alert so you can pick those up. Checks will be made out to Kentwood ASB.
4. The time to meet on Friday for the run will be at 10am at Kentwood - the run should be finished by noon.
Please make sure that you sons know where and when to be somewhere and if they can not that they are in full contact with the coaching staff. Cuts will be dictated on grades, commitment to summer conditioning and communication with the coaching staff.

Spring and Summer Football ReportSpring football was held at Kentwood High School for both the returning players and the incoming freshman. We had an outstanding turnout of over 180 players over the two week period. The veterans were asked to come out for 5 days to participate in an instructional not contact camp that reviewed fundamentals and terminology. The freshmen followed the next week with four days of introduction to Kentwood football, where they were taught the basics in fundamentals, drills, and terminology as well. These camps are held every year and
I just want to thank the Booster Club for doing all they could to get the word out to the Middle Schools so the athletes were aware and could attend.
The Summer lifting has been outstanding with an average of about 80 athletes a day visiting the weight room. We ask the boys to attend at least three times a week and there have been at least 100+ do just that. The workouts are tailored to the veterans that are required to max before they start. They are then given goals that they have the potential to achieve if the boys come do the workouts. The incoming freshmen have the same workouts but the main focus is for them to receive proper lifting technique, safety, and to develop a strong work ethic. It is a five week workout finishing with three days of Maxing at the end of the summer.
UPS CAMP - this year we took the highest number of participants in Kentwood history totally over 100 players. The camp runs 5 days in July and is full contact. We commute so the cost is discounted from $310 dollars to $195 which included two meals a day and quality medical staffs to be on call during the entire day.
The camp was very successful. We went in with a lot of questions at the Varsity level and the camp helped answer some of them. We were young with only 14 seniors out of the 100+ that attended. Each day we saw tremendous improvement as the seniors stepped into leadership roles and the underclassmen adapted to the increase in speed and strength of the older players. On Thursday the Varsity competed against Mercer Island, Eastlake, Skyline, and our league opponent Tahoma. The team's improvement from Monday to Thursday was dramatic as the Varsity competed at a high level on both sides of the ball. The Junior varsity, which consisted of Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors also took big strides toward being successful this season with good performances verses Auburn Mountainview, Puyallup, Tahoma, Skyline, and Sprague. The 38 freshmen that went will have a tremendous advantage going into the season having played together and having a working understanding of what we do.
Running camp has started and we constantly has 120 players out running in the evening from 6-8pm. They are working very hard and the numbers are starting to solidify as some athletes are finding Kentwood Football tough and that it take a lot of preparation. WE had a great time at the Kent Swim and Tennis Club last Thursday at the
Team Swim Party that lasted from 9-11pm. The guys were in true form playing football in the pool. Rick Trott took the best dressed award as he sported a leopard skinned speedo. (WOW) And Chandler Gray took home the Bell Flop Contest with a full flip landing flat on top of the water. We had over 100 boys attend and they all had a great time including the coaches.
Maxes started on Monday and will continue through Thursday with testing involving: Bench, Squat, Power Cleans, 40's, Pro Agility, Jump Rope, Vertical and GPA to be calculated together for an overall ranking for the student athletes to compare their combined strength, agility, speed and academics.
Today was the first day and we had some outstanding efforts in the weight room at all levels on the squat tests. Also in the evening Brooks Able and Kevin Warner defending their crown in the annual
Egg Toss that was held during the running session at night. I wonder which team will win the
Watermelon Race this year.
The Rest of this week consists of finishing out the testing and running camp with the
10K Fun Run on Friday. The boys will meet at the school at 10am to organize the run. Any parents wishing to help can come to the
Booster Club meeting on Wednesday at 7pm at Round Table Pizza on 132nd. That night the
Team Lock In is scheduled from 8pm to 7am at Kentwood but that location could change. We will know by Wednesday. Then Monday we have the
Tiger Mountain Climb (Meet at the school at 10am) and them
The Practices begin on Wednesday at 8:30 sharp.
WOW it is here. Don't forget about the
Mandatory Athletic registration on Monday and Tuesday August 14th or 15th. We recommend that you come and do that before we leave for the Tiger Mountain Climb. You will need your physical forms and the Emergency Contact information. IF you have any questions please attend the
Booster Club Meeting on Wednesday Night at Round Table Pizza in Kent.
